How Rogue began and why we are doing it.
How Rogue began and why we are doing it.
“I look at it this way: I directed Gary Busey, children, animals, and sword-fights, all in my directorial debut. By comparison, this is a walk in the park.”
MK – EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, ROGUE MARBLE, INC.
After decades of commercials, film production, missions, and ministry, we returned from almost 3 years of location scouting and filming in the Philippines and set sail for new production opportunities in Atlanta. The thing was, serendipitously, we found ourselves settling in halfway across the country on a ranch in Oklahoma, marketing a regional equine-based ministry and camp.
Based on our experience in the Philippines, however, seeing what God has done with our film Tanging Pag-asa, the Holy Spirit never stopped urging the return to missions-based filmmaking, reaching people where they are, all over the world, with the only Truth that can truly set them free.
It was there, not long after the China virus shutdown in early 2020, that I was approached by longtime friends who knew of my lifelong passions for Jesus and filmmaking. We discussed finding a way to assist ministries and mission groups to extend their reach and expand their development. And through their encouragement and participation, Rogue Marble was born into a passion for Jesus, storytelling, service, and love.
“I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.” – Matthew 28:18
THE “UNKNOWN” GOD
“Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols. So he was reasoning in the synagogue with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and in the market place every day with those who happened to be present…So Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I observe that you are very religious in all respects. For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.’ Therefore what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. – Acts 17:16-34
JESUS WAS A STORYTELLER
“You look at the parable of the talents: God wants us to take our talents and increase them and make good on the investment He has made in us, and I take that very seriously.” – David Oyelowo (IMDb)
Jesus spent as little time with the religious folks of his day as possible. It is my theory that he got his fill in the Temple when he was thirteen. When his public ministry began, the Messiah, Immanuel, the Word spent his time in the company of brawlers, thieves, prostitutes, and adulterers, none of which were as bad as the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Do churches have an “extra-sinful section”? When was the last time you found yourself in the company of such folks? Would you even know what you do? Gripped by fear and complacency, and lulled into pleasurable inaction, the Western Church has erected walls that seem to keep the “lost” out more than anything else. Movies have the potential to reach out to where people are, where they live and allow them to see the real Jesus, not Hollywood’s version.
JESUS WAS A SERVANT
As we began to develop and describe what Rogue Marble would do and be, there was one thing that was clear, we want to serve the Church to reach the world. To that end, we crafted our purpose statement:
Rogue Marble exists to come alongside Christ-centered ministries and missions organizations and turn authentic and transformative God-stories into scripted movies for increased cultural outreach and development.
Jesus said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:42-44.
JESUS TAUGHT THE MEANING OF LOVE
Love Is Our Trademark
“As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” – John 13:34b-35
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘Hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
